Microsoft started to roll out the new Windows 11 2022 Update a few days back to the public. This update (also known as 22H2) has also been available to users registered under the Windows Insider Program for a while. Many users have previously reported issues with gaming during the test period. However, the Windows development team seems to have released the public 22H2 update without fixing the gaming problems.

22H2 Gaming Issues

Gaming is Unstable in the Windows 11 22H2 Update

As the Windows 11 2022 Update rolled out, it ruined the gaming performance of the PCs that received it. Users have reported that the gaming performance of their Windows 11 powered computers has become inconsistent. The Frame Rate in games has become unstable causing users a boatload of pain while playing games as it makes most games unplayable.

Users in the Windows Insider Program have received the 22H2 update way before the public release and as expected, they encountered these issues as well. One of the reasons Microsoft has this Insider program is so they can collect feedback on problems like these and fix them before they roll out (a final/updated version of the software) to the public.

However, although Windows Insiders reported these gaming issues, the development team seems to have completely overlooked them this time around.

The instability is causing massive frame drops in games. For example, if a game was playable at 240 FPS previously, users have noticed that getting cut down to as low as 30 FPS.

Some feedback also indicated that the update caused CPU usage to drop drastically. This has resulted in a huge performance drop in CPU-intensive games and users have also reported crashes during gameplay.

NVIDIA Jumped In to Solve the Issue

With a large number of Geforce gaming laptops and desktops affected, NVIDIA jumped in to resolve the issue themselves. The company today released Geforce Experience 3.26.0.131 which apparently fixes the Frame Rate inconsistency issue in Windows 11 22H2.

If you are running a 22H2 powered Windows 11 PC that spots an NVIDIA Geforce GPU, you can download the new Geforce Experience update from below:

You can also open Geforce Now on your PC and check for the update. There is no confirmation on when Microsoft will release an update themselves to fix this issue and AMD hasn’t yet released anything to combat this either.

However, these 22H2 gaming issues need to be fixed as soon as possible by the Windows development team itself as they shouldn’t have been present on a public version in the first place.
