NVIDIA Announces RTX 40-Series GPUs For Laptops

NVIDIA just took the wraps off their RTX 40-series for laptops during their presentation at CES 2023. The new GPUs are up to 3 times more power efficient with performance improvements up to 4 times in AAA titles. The company has announced five new laptop GPUs alongside a bunch of new laptops coming in February 2023.

NVIDIA RTX 40-series GPUs Are Here

The green (GPU) giant has announced five RTX 40-series GPUs that can be found on the upcoming laptops from next month. This includes the RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4070 for the budget to mid-range gaming laptops and professional creator laptops alongside the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 for high-power flagship gaming laptops. All these GPUs are using the new Ada Lovelace architecture.

In theory, RTX 40-series Laptop GPUs should bring much better gaming performance (up to 4x) while consuming 1/3 of the power of the RTX 30-series. The company is using the lowest-voltage GDDR6 Memory currently available, to drastically reduce power consumption. It also brought DLSS 3 to laptops alongside its 5th Gen Max-Q technology.

NVIDIA announced the RTX-40 series for desktops in September and they’ve now also added a new GPU to that series. According to the company, the new RTX 4070 Ti should outdo the RTX 3090Ti, but as it costs just $799 it should be a better value for consumers.

New RTX 40 Laptops Are Coming Next Month

If you want to get your hands on a new device equipped with an RTX 40-series Laptop GPU, you don’t have to wait for long. Laptop OEMs will start selling their new RTX 40 laptops in February 2023. While I don’t have a massive list of product names just yet, I do know that the Yoga 14 Pro from Lenovo, the Zenbook Pro 14 from ASUS, the Swift X from Acer, and the Alienware x16 from Dell are all coming out with these new GPUs.

Here’s a list of the GPUs the above laptops will be using,

  • Alienware x16 (starting $1999): RTX 4080/4090
  • Zenbook Pro 14 (starting $999): RTX 4050/4060/4070
  • Acer Swift X: RTX 4050
  • Lenovo Yoga 14 Pro: RTX 4050

There will be a bunch of new laptops coming from Acer, ASUS (including ROG), Lenovo, Dell (including Alienware), Razer, Samsung, Gigabyte, HP, and MSI. These new offerings, in theory, should bring massive improvements to gaming and creative workloads, but I’ll hold off further commenting until actual products are available for purchase.
