Apple recently previewed the macOS Monterey, which is considered the most advanced desktop OS. The upgraded operating system is now backed with all the latest features that enable users to get more work done, especially across the various Apple devices.
Some of the recent updates include SharePlay, a new FaceTime features that enable users to share experiences via video calls. Also, the updates include one to the Safari as well with the powerful tab organization for easier access to shortcuts and other features that automate tasks easier.
Additionally, Universal Control and AirPlay are two of the extra Continuity features that enable users to work effortlessly across different Apple devices. The macOS Monterey is going to be integrated in the largest lineup of Macs, including the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac and Mac mini.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering further emphasizes on the release saying that the new macOS Monterey is jam packed with a range of features that ensure enhanced connectivity among friends and family and enable users to work on their Mac and iPad a lot more effortlessly.
From the Universal Control to SharePlay on Facetime and Safari’s new tab design, there are a lot of functions that the users will appreciate having direct access to.

Enabling streamlined performance
The new tools and additions to the new macOS enable users to get more done, especially when it comes to share, collaborate and stay focused on work.
The new tab design on Safari allows the users to experience a streamlined user experience, especially by taking the color of the webpage and also combines the tabs on the tool bar. The Tab Groups option allow the users to manage multiple tabs for planning trips, storing tabs for future reference.
The Monterey OS also comes with shortcuts on the Mac that help the users automate everyday tasks and enable peak productivity.
There is an array of pre-built functions that are specifically designed for Mac to enable easier sharing options. Also, the Shortcut Editor on Mac enable enhanced customization to match the workflows around. Addition of the hands-free Siri further makes it easier for the users to run the shortcuts.
There are further additions to Notes that allow the users to stay organized, ensure improved collaboration and create notes anywhere they deem suitable. Also, the Quick Note function allow users to get sorted with notes anywhere without any constraints. The Quite Note will also include functions to enable addition of link and mentions.
Another additional feature is Focus that enable the Mac users to automatically filter out unwanted notifications that aren’t needed for the current activity. When a user has their Focus function set on the device, it enables them to customize the same across different activities.
Enhanced Connectivity Options
The macOS Monterey also comes with a range of new connectivity functions that allow you to enjoy and collaborate better with your friends, family and colleagues.
The first additional function that Monterey is coming with is the range of new audio and video features on Facetime. This is expected to make calls a lot more streamlined and user friendly.
The spatial audio integration will make the audio feel like its coming from the person like they are setting right beside you and not talking through a screen. Also, the Voice Isolation function cancels out unnecessary noise to enhance voice and audio clarity.
Another addition to the FaceTime functions include SharePlay. This allow users to share experiences via FaceTime. It can include sharing movies, songs or even projects, for that matter. The app will thus allow users to charge streaming parties and a lot more than you’d expect.
Also, the API is designed for better adoption so third-party application developers can introduce their own apps on FaceTime.
Shared with You function allows you to keep tabs on documents, images and video files that have been shared with you across Messages, Apple podcasts, Photos, Safari, etc. to have better organization of important files.
Better Collaborative Functions across Apple Devices
Not just connectivity and performance, the new Monterey OS also enhances the collaborative functions across multiple Apple devices.
The Universal Control allows the users to work with a single mouse and keyword across multiple Apple devices, including a Mac and iPad. This enables quicker and “no setup” functions for the users.
The AirPlay to Mac function allow users to play, present and share the latest games and movies to vacation pictures and projects from one Apple Device to the other without any interruptions. Also, the high-fidelity sound system further offers enhanced listening experience via the Mac.
Additional features to look out for
Aside from all the above functions, the macOS Monterey also comes with a range of other functions, including:
- Interactive globe in maps and navigation
- Live-text function to detect photos and websites and phone numbers
- iCloud+ for enhanced cloud-based storage with new features and enhanced security
- Spatial audio enables users to experience theatre-like experience via Airpods Pro and Max
- Enhanced privacy features, including Mail Privacy Protection and Mac recording indicator
- Improved accessibility features for alternative functions
Availability
The developer beta version is already accessible to the Apple Developer program members and the public beta version of the OS will be made available in the next month for the other users.
