Google has released new updates to the desktop version of the Chrome browser and they seem to be focused on user convenience in a big way. With the latest feature update, users can now find Bookmarks, Tabs, and Browsing History much faster by simply searching for them in the Chrome Address Bar.
The Google Chrome Address Bar Gets Better
In the past, the address bar only showed suggestions from Google alongside the user’s previous searches and past visited web pages matching the query. So, technically you could access the history in the past, but directly. This new feature update adds a way to search all your history alongside your bookmarks and tabs.
To use this new feature, you need to type “@” in the search bar followed by “bookmarks”, “tabs”, or “history” followed by your query (what you want to find.) Or, you can simply select from the “Search Bookmarks”, “Search Tabs”, and “Search History” options that show up after typing “@” and search your query from there.
While the company didn’t mention a specific version of Chrome that first received these features, I saw these working immediately on version 108.0.5359.94 (the current version is 108.0.5359.95). If you are not seeing these options, just update your Chrome to the latest version and you should be good to go.
Now just to clarify, Bookmark and History search shows you results from the entire collection of bookmarks and all your search history while the Tab search only shows the active tabs and not the ones you’ve already closed. Either way, this is a significant improvement over the previous ways of dealing with these three areas and should speed up the process for the users by a lot.
