Display

ASUS has done a great job by providing a much thinner bezel with this laptop. This is the age of smaller bezels and more than a game of wide bezels on all the sides of the screens.

The main motto is to increase the screen to body ratio. Once it is achieved the design and display asus vivobook f512da-eb55 involvement with the device increase to a much greater extent. With this product, ASUS claims to have provided the class-leading 88% screen to body ratio.

This 15.6-inch ultra slim screen size has got only 0.7-inch bezels all around. The display is 14.1-inch wide and has got full HD display ability.

The ASUS laptop features a screen of 1920X1080 full HD display. The laptop’s screen size is perfect for watching movies and carrying out day to day office work.

The one thing that makes this laptop a great pick is the new age display technology that ASUS has brought into the table.

The computer features a NanoEdge display technology. It’s just interesting and exciting at the same time when you get a sight of something outstanding and vivid. The contrast ratio of the laptop could have been more enhanced to offer an experience that is ultimate for gamers and corporate users too.

There are many thumbs down for the low contrast ration the laptop can make available for a limited color range. But again, the viewing angles of the computer are high, which means you can spend long hours before the laptop without a fuss.

Build Quality

ASUS has spent a considerable amount of time in designing this fantastic product. The design is just worth as per the pricing. The laptop gets an aluminum brushed surface finish that adds to the sleekness of the computer and enhances its look too.

Moreover, it appears to be a perfect corporate machine as well as a trendy machine also. The screen bends are made to be perfect, and the placement of the keyboard and the touchpad is made in such a way that it makes for a beautiful place to rest your palms.

And working in the nighttime would be fun too. The keyboard is designed for ergonomic performance.

On a lighter note, it is a great product indeed, and it is a true performer to tackle the pros of its competitors in the market. ASUS is hopeful of getting good results from this product and lets us be cheerful too.

  1. It is not a hybrid drive. The 128GB SSD is loaded in a PCIe slot, and the 1TB HDD is a separate 9.5-inch SATA drive. A Hybrid drive is typically an SSD piggybacked onto an HDD, and usually piped in through the Serial ATA connection… much slower than the 3rd-gen NVMe slot that this laptop comes with.

The -EB55 package is shipped with both of these drives (although the base F512DA and X512DA platforms may come with totally different configurations) as well as 4GB LPDDR4 SDRAM and a single SODIMM slot loaded with an additional 4GB DDR4-2400 RAM. Up to 2GB of on-board SDRAM may be allocated to VRAM, and as far as I know it cannot be increased. Asus only supports up to 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM expansion, however I can say that adding 16GB of DDR4-2666 has not killed performance in my machine. I do, however, wish I had actually looked inside before I ordered my stick.

The number pad is crap. Everyone offering these 3×5 number pads should be shot. There is more than ample room for a STANDARD 4×4 number pad, but as such you are forced into relearning that the decimal point is now in the middle column (middle finger, not ring finger), and you have to stretch all the way to the top fourth and fifth rows for all four maths functions. Division (backslash) is located RIGHT NEXT TO THE POWER BUTTON.

The only other drawback to this laptop is the screen. They call it Ergo-Lift. I call it “shove the display downward to hide some of the screen and put all the weight of your hands and the chassis on the bottom edge of the frameless display panel” but you might call it a drag. When you open the laptop on a flat surface, the display actually drags the chassis away from you, straining the plastic display lid. But I digress.

Micro-SD slot is a waste. All laptops should include a full sized SD slot, since all Micro-SD cards come with an adapter anyway these days. If you’re prone to losing yours, just store it in your laptop bag (I assume you plan on getting one, right? Because this Asus does not enjoy being carried for reasons mentioned above). Oh right, we don’t have a full size SD-card slot.

Aside from the display construction and the number pad, and the Micro-SD slot, the Asus F512DA-EB55 is a decent laptop. The charger is crap though. The port for it could stand to be a bit more robust. Otherwise it’s a good performer, it’s lightweight, and perfect for your average homegamer. But I don’t recommend travelling with it, and you can forget about trying to play Metroid Prime through Dolphin EMU. I haven’t tried Minecraft yet. Maybe I’ll give that a shot when I’m in a wheelchair and have nothing else to live for.
