The new ASUS VivoBook is a thin and lightweight laptop and has an abundant configuration to give a tough fight to its peers in the coming days. Nevertheless, the USP of this sleek and stylish laptop is its cost. Priced under just $600, ASUS definitely is giving a tough competition.

Design and Build

The new ASUS VivoBook F510UA’s design is pretty much similar to the last year’s ASUS VivoBook. Of course, thinner and lighter than the old version, this new edition is certainly pocket-friendly without any doubt. Weighing just 3.7 pounds, this sleek and stylish beauty can be bought by both students and professionals for a daily use.

Apart from its look and build, the VivoBook comes in a shiny grey colour. Other than the lid, the complete body is a plastic finish. Of course, the machine gets a glittering coating that looks like aluminium and even resembles MacBook Air as the laptop gradually gets narrower from the side. Another fantastic element of this system is it has extreme slim 0.3” ASUS’ proprietary NanoEdge bezel that provides a super 75 to 80 percent of screen-to-body ratio.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The body of the laptop and the keyboard deck got the same kind of material. Despite that, the laptop still gives a good user experience for users as the keyboard is big with the moderately sized number and letter keys. As far as the touchpad is concerned, it is moderately fine. But nowhere even comes close to MacBook Air or Dell XPS 13.

Display and Speakers

VivoBook F510UA has a nice 15.6-inch LED screen along with the full HD display of resolution 1920X1080 pixels. The wide look of the laptop makes it better for users who love to watch movies, photographs, etc. As already said earlier, it has ASUS’ proprietary splendid visual optimization technology that offers a better optimized visual display for any sort of content to watch.

Albeit the screen is nice, the downside of this machine is that the hinge doesn’t bend as much as I would like. However, with an adequate tone of bass, the speakers are great. Users would love to watch Netflix and YouTube as the music plays amazing.

Connectivity and Storage

Even with an eye-catching and impressive slimmer fuselage, there aren’t an optimum number of USB ports we usually find on notebooks also, the optical drive is relinquished. Having a good 8GB of memory along with storage of 1TB 5400rpm, but it is evidently slower than SSD storage that we find on other machines.

For example, the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH54 has 256GB solid-state-drive storage. Even though it doesn’t sound like it’s a lot but still it is sufficient for quicker boot times and a nice overall performance. And for faster boot times, it comes with an m.2 2280 slot just next to the hard drive so that users simply insert an SSD.

Performance of ASUS VivoBook F510UA

The ASUS VivoBook F510UA comes with 8th generation processor and it does have a strong performance. The processor snaps speeds of between 1.6GHz and 3.1GHz, blended with 8GB memory does the job for daily basic needs.

Webcam

The system has a basic front camera and just like other laptops in this budget, the front camera is just for namesake. It’s good to take pictures in daylight but fails to capture a decent image under low-light conditions. In just one word, there’s nothing so spectacular about this camera. It’s just a basic one.

Battery Life

Users can expect a decent battery life. Somewhere around 4 to 5 hours, users can use the laptop after a single charge. Slightly lower than what MacBook Pro offers, but will last when compared to other 15-inch laptops. Moderately used, this laptop works for a whole day at office or school.

Should you buy?

Well, the undeniable fact is that ASUS VivoBook F510UA is certainly cheaper than other 15-inch laptops and with the kind of features and functionalities it offers, it is a value for money. However, if you are fine spending a little more than this then you can consider Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4. It doesn’t mean that VivoBook is not worth purchasing, it’s just that there any many options if you are comfortable spending a little beyond what ASUS VivoBook is offering.
