These days it’s not uncommon to see devices that surpassed the limitations of their ancestors and had a wow factor in them. Gaming laptops especially the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S is a prime example of how we can see unique and strange designs that stand above heat management and limited chassis space.
GX701 beats its predecessor the 15-inch ROG Zephyrus GX501VI by 2 inches and houses powerful RTX-20 graphics within its body. The laptop compensates for it with a weirdly placed keyboard and air vents.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701GW-PS74 Design
Zephyrus S stands out from the crowd in a strange way, it carries the same screen as that of its 2017 predecessor but the keyboard being moved forward barely leaves any room for your wrists to rest on while gaming or even while typing. The rest of the deck disappoints too as it just sports an oversized ROG logo and a lot of black dots.
Weighing under just a bit of six pounds, this is one of the lightest 17-gaming laptops in the market and the laptop is also a bit thinner than its predecessor the 15-inch Razor Blade. While there are a lot of lighter laptops out there the runner up is the Alienware M17 at 5.8 pounds with the winner being MSI GS75 which takes the crown weighing just 5 pounds and 0.7-inch thickness.
This laptop covers most of the basic USB ports and has two USB-C ports, three USB-A ports and one HDMI port. But things do get a little messy for Zephyrus S here, users can find Gen2v3. port meant for power and display port and they can find the Gen1 3.1 port which is just for data, making using external GPUs impossible. But problems with the ports don’t just end here, the laptop has compromised for its thin structure by booting out the ethernet which can be a huge turnoff for gamers looking for LAN connectivity. The laptop sports a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Kensington lock and a barrel plug for the charging input.
A Laptop That Cares Only For Gamers
The keyboard placement on the Zephyrus S is quite strange, instead of the top, the touchpad are towards the bottom of the deck which creates a problem. This placement creates two problems, wrist and hand cramps after a few hours and making the use of this laptop while placing on your hand, well – impossible.

Verdict
The Zephyrus S is by no doubt one of the best gaming laptops in the market, the RTX 2080 inside the beast along with hi-tech cooling, this device delivers a satisfying and smooth gaming experience irrespective of the game you’re playing. The display is very impressive and has a very high refresh rate along with G sync support.
But are these pros worth the strange keyboard, low battery power along with a missing Ethernet port and a webcam? While the Zephyrus S is great for gaming and can be carried around easily, it fails big time at being an actual laptop and can be considered more of a portable desktop.
