The entire world may have been in shock when Apple launched the new Macbook Air and an updated 13-inch Macbook Pro with the next-gen Apple M2 chip during WWDC. Usually, we get new Macs in the October event, while WWDC is reserved for Software launches. However, it seems like the tech giant might launch their M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in new 14-inch and 16-inch Macbook Pros, during this year’s October Mac Event.

Apple M2 Pro Macbook Pro Launch

Apple M2 Pro and M2 Max Macbook Pro Models May Launch Next Month

According to a report published by Digitimes, their industry sources have claimed that the new Macbook Pro series (14-inch and 16-inch) are scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter which indicates that the new Macbooks are likely coming next month.

Considering how Apple released the M1 Pro and M1 Max equipped laptops the next year after launching the regular M1, I wasn’t hoping for the M2 Pro and M2 Max powered models to arrive until 2023. However, with an unexpected early M2 release, this no longer seems that far-fetched.

What To Expect From The New 14-inch and 16-inch Macbook Pros

The new 14-inch and 16-inch Macbook Pro models are expected to bring incremental updates over their predecessors. That means Apple will likely use the same chassis with updated internals. Even the display, if it gets any improvements at all, will probably be very similar to the one we have on the M1 Pro/M1 Max Macbook Pros.

Here’s a list of everything that’s expected to change on the next-gen 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros,

  • New M2 Pro and M2 Max SOCs with improvements to performance and graphics
  • HDMI 2.1
  • Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2
  • Slight improvements to the 1080P Webcam
  • Possible addition of Face ID hardware in the notch
  • Minimal upgrades to the MiniLED display
  • Higher prices with M1 Pro and M1 Max variants still staying in the lineup

Apple may add a little extra to make the new Macbook Pros a bit more desirable, but again, those upgrades aren’t going to be massive. What we’ll probably get is a bunch of micro-upgrades in different areas that make the user experience, significantly better.

What Else Can We Expect From The October 2022 Event

It’s not very clear how Apple has shifted its product launch strategy, so it is very difficult to say if the company is going to bring a certain set of products to the event. However, I’d at least hope for an M2-powered iMac and new iPad Pro models to arrive alongside the Apple M2 Pro/Max Macbook Pro launch.

I’d also like to see new Homepods, an updated Apple TV 4K, and that Mixed Reality headset we’ve been hearing about so much, but, those seem somewhat unlikely at this moment. However, if apple would like to surprise us, we’ll take that with pleasure.
