Following the popularity and widespread growth of the M1 chips that were integrated in the previous generation MacBook Air and Pro, Apple finally announced their next set of Pro chips for MacBooks, the M1 Pro and M1 Max.
The new chipsets are designed with improvements to the pre-existing M1 chipset to offer industry-leading power efficiency and superior performance. The CPU functions in the M1 Pro and M1 Max offer 70% faster performance with 2x and 4x improved GPU performance in M1 Pro and M1 Max than M1 respectively.
The M1 Pro and M1 Max are programmed with the system-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture with unified memory and heightened power efficiency, improved memory bandwidth and capacity.
The efficient architecture of these new chipsets calibrate superior performance and long-lasting battery life for prolonged productivity without any complaints. These are improved media engines backed with the ProRes accelerators for the videographers and content creators.

M1 Pro – Superior Performance and Capability
The new M1 Pro chipset is programmed with the leading 5-nanometer process technology. Besides that, it is integrated with 33.7 billion transistors, twice the amount present in M1 chip.
The 10-core CPU is programmed with 8 high-performance and 2 high-efficiency cores. The combination of the two translates to 70% superior performance compared to the previous generations. Even for the high demanding and intensive tasks like online streaming, gaming and editing can be done effortlessly on the device.
Moving to the GPU configuration, the chipset features a 16-core GPU that is 2x faster than the M1. Despite consuming 70% less power, the M1 Pro delivers uninterrupted performance. Also, it is backed with 32GB heightened bandwidth for unified memory. The 200GB/s memory bandwidth makes performance a lot more streamlined for the artists, video editors and gamers.
M1 Max – World’s Most Powerful Chip
The M1 Max is designed with M1 Pro as a baseline, offering improved performance over that. The 10-core CPU is constant like the M1 Pro but comes with 32-core GPU for 4x superior performance than before. The chipset is programmed with 57 billion transistors.
The chipset further offers enhanced GPU performance while consuming 40% less power without compromising the performance. The chipset translates well into the battery life, even with graphics-intensive workflow.
The M1 Max is also programmed to offer higher-bandwidth with double memory interface with 400GB/s as compared to the M1 Pro, which offers half of it. This supports the M1 Max to support 64GB of faster unified memory for unparalleled performance.
Programmed with ProRes
Moving ahead with improved functionalities, the M1 Pro and M1 Max comes with Apple-designed media engine for accelerating video processing functions. The integrated ProRes video codec allows multiple streams with 4K and 8K video support.
Programmed into the MacBook Pro, the M1 Max chipset transcodes ProRes video in compressor with 10x superior performance compared to the previous launches.
