Tired of the 17-inch gaming laptops already or they still aren’t big enough for you? Dell’s high-end gaming laptop brand might release something just for customers like you very soon. In the past, the company experimented with desktop chips inside its laptops and the RGB Trackpad is still a favorite for many. So, Alienware clearly doesn’t mind going crazy with its products and now it seems like they’re gearing up to launch a gigantic 18-inch laptop.
Alienware May Have Just Teased An 18-inch Laptop
The company just posted a video on Twitter teasing the arrival of a new product which is apparently “something big and powerful“. The video teases the number 18, which all but confirms that the company is bringing an 18-inch laptop soon. Reading in-between lines of the video, this new laptop might be the most high-performing product in the company’s line-up.

If it is indeed the most powerful laptop from the company it can come under the x-series as the x18 (x18 R1). For the m-series, I won’t expect something immediately, but considering how both product lines have been turning up with products in recent years, I’d expect a new m18 sometime soon as well. Although, this can flip if Dell doesn’t have newer hardware available for this laptop. In that case, the new m18 may come first.
I said new m18 because there was another m18 in the past, known as the M18x and there was even a different one called the Alienware 18 (ALW18). These are all 18-inch laptops that got discontinued by the company years ago. Since then, all the gaming laptop brands have been focusing on slightly smaller screens like 15.6 inches.
However, recently brands started producing big-screen laptops again and 17-inch laptops are mainstream now. So, it would appear that the recent popularity of Alienware’s new 17-inch laptops, has given the company some confidence and they want to try the same with an even bigger 18-inch display.

What To Expect From Dell’s 18-inch Powerhouse
How they’re going to achieve a desirable product with an 18-inch monstrosity display, still remains something to be seen. The x17 is already huge and if you expand that even further, it’s going to be a hard sell right? But wait, maybe they don’t need to increase the overall size of the device if they switch from the 16:9 aspect ratio to 16:10.
This is how a lot of ultrabook manufacturers upgraded to bigger displays without increasing the size of the chassis. However, most gaming laptops (including Alienware) have avoided 16:10 heavily till now, so we’ll have to see if Dell chooses to go that path.
As CES is just a month away, I’m expecting Dell to announce their new big laptop during that event. I have no idea if the new high-power (45W) mobile chips from Intel (13th gen) and AMD (7000 series) will be available by that time, but if they do, maybe Alienware will use those for their new laptop, and I won’t be surprised if they use a desktop CPU (again). The same goes for the upcoming Nvidia (4000-series) and AMD (7000-series) mobile GPUs.
While it’s not clear what exactly we can expect from this new laptop, we can surely keep our hopes up for a better design, newer & more powerful internals, and of course, a higher price to go with those upgrades.
