The next-generation Apple Macbook Air 2022 installation is right around the corner and rumors suggest that the device will boast a complete overhaul in terms of design and specifications.
Here’s what we know so far:
Table of Contents
Improved design
If you are an Apple enthusiast, you know that the Macbooks haven’t gotten much design refinements over the years. Despite few changes to the specifications, not much has changed in the individual models released in the past few years.
That’s likely going to change in the upcoming 2022 Macbook Air. Featuring a new wedge shaped design, Apple is rumored to ditch the tapered design. The 2022 Macbook Air is expected to feature a more uniform design without tapering, much like Macbook Pro models.
Furthermore, Apple will integrate certain design elements from Macbook Pro and the 24-inch iMac into the 2022 Macbook Air. The laptop will also be a lot lighter and thinner than the previous models, weighing 2.9lbs only.
With Apple releasing their iMac in a few funky colors, rumors suggest that the upcoming Macbook Air will also come with a line-up of few new color options, besides the silver, gold and rose gold.
Responsive display
The last installment of Macbook Pro features the mini-LED display and the 2022 Macbook Air could potentially feature the same too. However, these are rumors at this point because popular display analyst, Ross Young states the mini LED display will only be reserved for the more expensive Pro models.
Also, the rumors suggest the Macbook Air 2022 model will be equipped with a 13.6″ Retina display, a little larger from the staple 13.3″ models.
Comfortable typing experience
Apple is paying attention to individual details, including the keyboard design. With popular demand, chances are that the 2022 Macbook Air will feature the same keyboard as the latest Macbook Pro.
However, unlike the all-black keyboard available for Pro, the Macbook Air will likely feature an all white keyboard with spacing underneath each letter.
Responsive processing power
The 2022 Macbook Air will boast the latest Apple M2 chip, an upgrade to the pre-existing M1 chip. Although the M2 chip won’t be as powerful as the M1 Pro and M1 Max, the redefined functionalities will create breakthrough for the new Macbook Air model, compared to its predecessor.
The new M2 chip will feature 8-core processing power like M1 chip with speed improvements for better efficiency in terms of the CPU and graphics performance.
Additional reports from Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple could continue with the existing M1 chip with a modified version.
Ports and camera
The 2022 Macbook Air is rumored to feature multiple USB Type-C and Thunderbolt ports but won’t come with the HDMI or SD card slots yet.
As for the camera settings, the new model will feature the 1080p resolution camera like the Macbook Pro models, an improvement from the existing 720p webcam.
Storage and additions
Besides all the basic features, reports suggest that the upcoming 2022 Macbook Air will also come with up to 2TB SSD storage and 16GB memory for superior multitasking experience.
Also, the device will boast up to 20 hours of battery life to support optimal performance and productivity.
Release date and availability
Although no confirmed date or timeline has been released yet, we can expect the new Macbook Air to come out in 2022. Kuo suggests that the mass production of the models will begin in second or third quarter of the year.
If we follow the trends over the years, chances are that the new Macbook Air could be released in October iPhone event.
Future rumors suggest that the users could get a 15.6″ Macbook Air in 2023 that will ditch the “Air” and will be called as Macbook only. We’d have to look forward for further confirmations.
